The 7th International Chinese Tennis Invitational Tournament – “Weiyang Cup” Sydney 2018 On January 7, 2018, the “Weiyang Cup” 7th International Chinese Tennis Invitational Tournament, hosted by the International Chinese Tennis Federation (ICTF), was grandly opened in Sydney, Australia. A total of 17 teams and 170 elite Chinese tennis players from around the world gathered in Sydney to celebrate friendship, sportsmanship, and cultural exchange through tennis. Ms. Lucy Chen-Jin, Chairwoman of the International Chinese Tennis Federation, attended the opening ceremony both as an honored guest and as a player. Ms. Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of New South Wales, Australia, sent an official congratulatory letter to the tournament. Mr. Simon Chan, President of the Sydney Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, together with Mr. Zheng Changwei, Chairman of Weiyang International Group and the title sponsor of the event, also attended the opening ceremony as distinguished guests. The tournament received strong media support and coverage from many major Chinese and Australian media outlets, including SBS Television Australia, ACAULIFE, Sydney Today, the Chinese Tennis Association APP, Australian New Express Daily, Tennis Master, Sina News, and many others. Chinese tennis legend Zhu Zhenhua also attended both the opening ceremony and the closing awards gala dinner. In 1958, Mr. Zhu defeated Australian tennis legend Rod Laver during an international friendship tournament in Hungary. Today, the main stadium of the Australian Open proudly bears the name “Rod Laver Arena,” making this historic moment a meaningful chapter in the friendship and tennis exchange between China and Australia. After two days of exciting and highly competitive matches, Rongshuchun Tennis Club from Fujian Province won the championship title. The Tokyo Chinese Tennis Team from Japan claimed second place, while the International Chinese Tennis Federation Team and the Public Tennis (International) Forum Team shared third place. During the tournament, players from around the world stayed at Mercure Sydney in Sydney’s Chinatown district, offering convenience for competition, shopping, and交流. To allow overseas participants to experience the beauty and lifestyle of Australia more deeply, the organizing committee arranged a variety of cultural and sightseeing activities, including luxury harbour cruises around Sydney Harbour, close-up views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, seafood feasts at the famous Sydney Fish Market, watching the Sydney International Tennis Tournament — the Australian Open warm-up event — and relaxing at Bondi Beach under Australia’s sunshine, blue skies, and white sandy beaches. As a wonderful continuation of the tournament celebrations, all international participants later travelled to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open and visit some of Australia’s most iconic attractions, including Phillip Island and the Great Ocean Road, creating unforgettable memories from this global Chinese tennis gathering. Using tennis as a bridge, connecting friendships among Chinese communities worldwide; Using sport as a bond, promoting Chinese culture and international friendship.
